Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr Mandy,
I hope you're well. I am one of your fans who always followed you from the first day. I bought tickects for your Toronto show. What a overwhelming response given by audience. I was emotional when I saw you on the concert, and I proud that an Indian singer sold his show tickets in few days. That was a memorable event for me.
I am also an musician, and I like to play piano, which is the main reason to follow you. I have been learning this skill for the last two years. I have had copied your composition before I started palying piano. Recently, I had invited for the Television show, where I got a first position.
I would be grateful if you could give me an opportunity to play some of the musical instrument at the back stage. I am ready to give you an interview at your earliest conveniece. It is my dream to join your team with my full of dedication and effort. I hope my years of experience made me ideal for this position.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Gurdeep Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly express your feelings about the performance, describe your musical background, and make a specific request for assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a performer, although the opening address 'Dear Mr Mandy' is slightly unusual given the context of a singer. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to satisfy the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that the purpose of the letter is clearly stated in the opening paragraph and that the request for help is linked more naturally to your stated musical goals.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the concert experience to your personal musical activities and finally to your request. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'I am also' and 'I would be grateful if', which help the flow. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. For example, the jump from your piano experience to the television show could be better linked with a cohesive phrase to improve the overall flow of the narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'memorable', 'composition', and 'dedication'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'always followed you from the first day' (should be 'have followed you since your debut') and 'give me an opportunity to play some of the musical instrument' (should be 'play a musical instrument'). There are also minor spelling errors like 'tickects' and 'palying'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you proofread for basic spelling mistakes to avoid distracting the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'What a overwhelming response' (should be 'an'), 'I proud that' (missing 'am'), 'I had invited for the Television show' (should be 'I was invited'), and 'my full of dedication' (should be 'my full dedication'). These errors are frequent but do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct use of articles, and ensuring that passive voice constructions are formed accurately.
