Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Karan,
I am writing this letter to appreciate your performance at Panjab University campus. I experienced a same level of energy throughout your show from your side. The show had begin with greetings and warm welcome of audience. Going ahead, you paid off every penny spent by students to attend the event. I am your huge fan because of your unwavering consistency over the years in music industry.
Moving towards my interest in music, I am doing masters in same field. Where the study is more theoretical and pivot around spelling the words accurately while singing. For the same reason, I am voluntarily taking part in the theaters to get practical experience.
To be honest, I am eagerly looking forward for mentor who could teach me for two months. I want to learn the performance skills that you possessed such as confidence, art of winning the audience, building their ongoing interest entirely through the show.
I would be glad to learn from outstanding performer like you.
Thank you,
Jasleen Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly expressed your appreciation for the performance, provided relevant details about your musical studies, and made a specific request for mentorship. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a performer, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, when mentioning your musical activities, you could elaborate on the specific challenges you face in your studies to make your request for help feel more grounded and personal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moving towards' and 'For the same reason,' which help guide the reader through your points. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your transition words and ensure that the connection between your appreciation of the concert and your own musical background is more fluid. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall structure is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'unwavering consistency' and 'practical experience.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'pivot around spelling the words' (which is unclear) and 'mentor who could teach me' (should be 'a mentor'). Additionally, 'experienced a same level of energy' is slightly unnatural. While your meaning is always clear, expanding your range of idiomatic expressions or more precise musical terminology would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'The show had begin' (should be 'began'), 'in same field' (missing article 'the'), and 'performer like you' (should be 'a performer'). Some of your phrasing, such as 'looking forward for mentor,' is also grammatically incorrect. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
