Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Arijit Singh,

I, Harsh Patel, am writing this letter in order to let you know that I have attended your recent music concert at Surat. Although, the ticket price was expensive, it was still worthy enough to attend.

Since, your concert were happening in my city, I was so exited to see you live in person as I am your big fan from my childhood. While I was watching and listening your performance for the first time in person, I genuinely got the goosebumps.

For your information, I am glad to let you know that I write music and compose for my passion. I am keen and interested in writing classic, rock, and rap songs. I also post some of my work on online to get recognized by people. While I am getting enough views on my videos but I have not got any opportunity yet to write for big singer like you.

Here, I am attaching some songs with this letter which I wrote considering your background. You can also check my you tube channel called "JAZZ MUSIC". If you like my work, I would be really happy to write music and compose for you absolutely for free.

Please let me know, You can contact me on my email address : [redacted email]

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly express your feelings about the concert, describe your musical background, and make a specific request for collaboration. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. To improve, you could provide more specific details about your musical activities, such as how long you have been composing or specific achievements, to make the letter more persuasive and fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Since,' 'While,' and 'If,' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor punctuation errors and slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'Although, the ticket price was expensive,' where the comma after 'Although' is unnecessary. Improving the variety of transition words would help the text flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'compose,' 'passion,' and 'recognized.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'worthy enough to attend' (should be 'worth the price') and 'big singer' (should be 'prominent' or 'established' singer). Additionally, there are some spelling errors like 'exited' (should be 'excited') and 'you tube' (should be 'YouTube'). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'your concert were happening' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'I post some of my work on online' (unnecessary preposition). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex structures to ensure they are error-free.
