Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sunil,
I am huge fan of your music and writing to congratulate to you for the brilliant performance you delivered at the rogers centre yesterday evening which I am sure I and my friends enjoyed it to the fullest. It was simply breathtaking and electrifying performance I have seen in my entire life, it was one of the best day of my life.
I am an aspiring musician, I started playing guitar when I was in grade 9. Eventually, I learned playing tablas and piano. Additionally, I used to riaz with my grandpa as he is a great composer. Due to our family’s interest in music drove me to the dream of being a musician. Additionally, when I started a college I have joined a band name called “ window of songs” for last six months, where we play local music. We primarily focus on pop and rock music. You have always been my role model.
I am sure you must be very busy with your concert world tour, although I will deeply appreciate your mentorship to help me do better in music. Moreover, if you can spare your precious time to guide me which will enhance my skills and boost my confidence.
With regards,
Dimpal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly expressed your admiration for the performance, provided relevant details about your musical background (guitar, tabla, piano, and band experience), and made a specific request for mentorship. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a performer. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between your musical activities and the specific help you are requesting is more explicitly developed. For instance, explaining exactly what kind of guidance you need—such as songwriting techniques or stage presence—would make your request more persuasive and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. However, the use of these transitions is sometimes repetitive, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, in the second paragraph, the transition 'Due to our family’s interest in music drove me to the dream' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the logical progression. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that referencing is precise will help your writing feel more natural and cohesive.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'aspiring musician,' 'breathtaking,' and 'electrifying.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I used to riaz' (which is a specific cultural term that might need context) and 'band name called' (which is redundant). Additionally, there are minor errors in phrasing, such as 'congratulate to you' instead of 'congratulate you.' To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding redundant phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated descriptors for your musical experiences would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'I am huge fan' is missing an article, and 'writing to congratulate' lacks a subject. There are also issues with run-on sentences and comma splices, such as in the first paragraph: 'It was simply breathtaking and electrifying performance I have seen in my entire life, it was one of the best day of my life.' Focusing on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and avoiding comma splices by using periods or semicolons will significantly improve your accuracy.
