Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are finding this message well. I am writing this letter to you to give you compliments about your talent as I attended your live music show recently.
Last friday, I was fortunate to attend your show and I am speechless as your performance was really brilliant. I can not imagine how beautiful you are singing songs in your live concent. Moreover, your locals and your choices of songs were highly energetic.
I am also into music I am playing drums and guitar with the singing. I am good composer too. Also, I have YouTube channel you can check me out.
I was thinking may be we can work together in my next album song. It would be great opportunity for me to work with you as this has always have been my dream.
Please let me know your thoughts. I am looking froward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Pragati Nanera

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly express your admiration for the performance, describe your musical background (drums, guitar, and composing), and propose a collaboration. However, the development of these points is somewhat basic. For instance, the description of your musical activities is quite brief and lacks detail. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your experience or the nature of your YouTube channel to make the request for collaboration sound more professional and convincing. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a performer, though the opening 'Dear Sir or Madam' is slightly formal for a fan letter to a specific singer.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Also', and 'I am also into music' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the transition between your musical activities and the request for collaboration could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, though the overall structure is quite simple. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas feels more natural and less like a list of points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'fortunate', 'speechless', and 'energetic'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the natural flow. For example, you wrote 'your locals' instead of 'your vocals' and 'live concent' instead of 'live concert'. Additionally, 'I am good composer too' is missing an article ('a good composer'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary and better attention to collocations in a musical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter. Examples include 'I hope you are finding this message well' (should be 'I hope this message finds you well'), 'how beautiful you are singing' (should be 'how beautifully you sang'), and 'this has always have been' (incorrect verb tense). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure often feels repetitive. To improve, focus on mastering basic verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
