Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Aujla Sir,

I am writing this to share my experience of your recent concert hosted at Brampton, Canada on 3rd of August.

Being a childhood fan, I was eagerly waiting for your concert from a long time. It was a golden night for me . I always admire your dressing sense and even on that day , I was on the seventh heaven , singing and dancing along with you.The best part was your first song ‘Chitta Kurta’.

I have also written many songs but to be honest, I do not have the courage and money to release those songs.Along with writing, I am also fluent in guitar.

I am really manifesting that if you could help me in sponsoring my few songs . You are my role model . I just want to be like you . I can share my songs if you are ready to have a glance.

I am looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

Yours lovingly

Kunwar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You expressed your feelings about the concert, described your musical background (writing songs and playing guitar), and clearly explained your request for sponsorship. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a performer, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about your musical activities, such as the genre of songs you write or how long you have been playing the guitar, to further develop your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Along with writing' and 'The best part was', which help the flow. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, though the overall structure is quite simple. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'childhood fan', 'golden night', and 'manifesting'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'sponsoring my few songs' (better: 'sponsoring a few of my songs') and 'ready to have a glance' (better: 'willing to take a look'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Focus on using more natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'waiting for your concert from a long time' (should be 'for a long time') and 'I am really manifesting that if you could help me' (the 'that' is unnecessary). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though there are some spacing issues around commas and periods. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not impede communication. Increasing the variety of complex structures would help improve this score.
