Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly express your admiration for the singer's performance, describe your current musical studies, and make a specific request for mentorship. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter to a public figure. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between your admiration and your request for help is more seamlessly integrated, as the transition between the second and third paragraphs feels slightly abrupt. Overall, the response is well-focused and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph has a central theme, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'I would also', and 'In addition' (implied). However, the range of cohesive devices is somewhat limited, and some transitions feel a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the message well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'outstanding', 'inspiration', and 'cooperation'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'attendant' instead of 'attended' and 'opted music' instead of 'opted for music'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise word choice and collocation awareness. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary or idiomatic expressions that fit the context of a letter to a musician, rather than relying on common, everyday phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'all of the time' (should be 'all time'), 'you response' (should be 'your response'), and the missing preposition in 'opted music'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on proofreading for small errors like subject-verb agreement and possessive pronouns. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you move into the higher band range.
