Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly express your appreciation for the performance, provide relevant details about your own band's activities, and make a specific request for advice on songwriting. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a performer, maintaining a respectful and enthusiastic register throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements, ensuring the reader understands the purpose of your communication immediately. To reach a higher band, ensure that the request for help is slightly more detailed, perhaps by explaining why his specific songwriting style is particularly influential to your band's creative process.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your narrative easily. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'I am writing to', 'I attended', and 'I am excited to mention' to link your thoughts. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and could be more varied to improve the flow between sentences. For instance, using more sophisticated transition words or phrases would enhance the overall structure. Paragraphing is used correctly, and the letter follows a standard, coherent structure suitable for a formal request.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'unbelievable experience', 'international tour', and 'appreciate'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'perfomance' (performance), 'siinging' (singing), and 'Your's truely' (Yours truly). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations or less common vocabulary related to music and performance. For example, instead of 'one of the biggest fan', use 'one of your biggest fans'. Expanding your range to include more nuanced descriptive language would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'the pleasure i had to witness you perfomance' (the pleasure I had witnessing your performance) and 'we usually organise our performance in birthday parties' (at birthday parties). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some issues with capitalization and spacing after commas. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. To achieve a higher band, focus on improving your control over verb forms and prepositions, and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
