Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. Arijit singh,

I hope you are doing well. I recently visited your concert in Edmonton. First and foremost, i am a big fan of yours, you are making amazing heart-touching songs which always makes me emotional. On 3rd march, you performed in Rogers arena and it was fully sold-out show with the jam packed crowd. I was amazed by your performance and how you are engaging with your fans. However, big shout-out to your back end team as well they also deserve a credit as they are the one who is playing all the musical instruments.

Furthermore, I was learning drums on my adulthood days, which helped me to gain more knowledge about music and musical instruments. However, you have very sweet voice and you are making love and break-up songs which young generation liked a lot. For example, i used to listen more lo-fi songs on my past break-up days then i started to listen your songs which honestly helped me a lot to move on from the relationship. Therefore, i always play your songs in my car while driving and even before sleeping at night.

Thankyou so much for giving us amazing, memorable concert experience.

Your sincerely,

Vishw Shah

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task. You expressed your feelings about the performance, mentioned your musical background with the drums, and provided a clear context for your appreciation. However, the third bullet point—explaining how you would like the singer to help you with your musical activities—is not addressed. The prompt explicitly asks for this, but your letter concludes without making a request for assistance or guidance. To improve, ensure you explicitly state how the singer could help, such as by offering advice on songwriting or providing feedback on your drumming. This omission prevents the response from fully covering all requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is generally easy to follow, and you have used paragraphing to separate your ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'However' to link sentences. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes slightly disjointed. For instance, the transition from discussing the concert to your personal history with the drums feels abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the shift between talking about the singer's band and your own musical interests. Improving the flow between paragraphs and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, using terms like 'heart-touching', 'jam-packed', and 'memorable'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'on my adulthood days' is unnatural; 'during my adult years' would be more appropriate. Similarly, 'young generation liked a lot' should be 'the younger generation likes'. There are also minor errors in phrasing, such as 'back end team' instead of 'backing band' or 'support team'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your expression and suggest a need for more natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'i am a big fan' (capitalization of 'I'), 'they are the one who is playing' (subject-verb agreement: 'they are the ones who are playing'), and 'i used to listen more lo-fi songs on my past break-up days' (preposition error: 'during my past break-ups'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and the capitalization of 'I'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles and prepositions.
