Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Diljit Dosanjh,
I am writing this to tell you about my feelings with reference to your performance last night.
In my opinion, you are the most talented singer I have came across in my entire life. I felt all the songs deeply in my soul, that you performed. Specifically, "Player" and "Killer bee" are the most favourite and close to my heart from all of your songs.
Moreover, I am also a singer and try to copy your style when I practice. Many of my friends have started calling me by your name as my entire playlist are full of your songs. I have started playing guitar as well lately. I request you to please help me with the songs which are really high in tone and you are the master in that. By giving me one-on-one 15 to 20 minutes session will really boost my confidence and singing.
Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Best wishes,
Maunil Oza

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly express your admiration for the performance, describe your own musical background, and make a specific request for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a fan writing to a performer. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could elaborate on why you find his high-tone songs particularly challenging or how his specific techniques have influenced your own practice. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Specifically' to link your thoughts. To improve, try to vary your transition words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother. For example, the transition between your musical activities and the request for help could be more integrated to create a more cohesive narrative flow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'deeply in my soul' and 'boost my confidence'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'most talented singer I have came across' (should be 'have come across') and 'my entire playlist are full' (should be 'is full'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Incorporating more precise musical terminology or more sophisticated adjectives would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I have came across' (tense error) and 'By giving me one-on-one 15 to 20 minutes session' (article and phrasing error). Additionally, 'that you performed' is slightly awkward in its placement. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
