Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Aditya,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my satisfaction with your concert which I attend last month.

For the first time I attended live music concert of my favourite singer and it was amazing experience for me. When I entered in the concert hall, it was packed with an audience. At the beginning of the concert, they were enjoying live performance and sang songs along with Aditya and danced enthusiastically. It was such a beautiful moment for me, your melodious voice dragged me into a different imaginative world and I felt more relaxed and refreshed. I took a number of photos of live concert and enjoyed meals in food court with my friends.

I have completed a music course and I can play violin and drums. Additionally, I took part in a lot of national music competitions and won medals for my excellent performance.

I want to join your music academy in order to improve my musical skills and become a part of your team. Also, I will play violin or drum in your concert for adding more charm and energy into it.

I hope you consider my request and accept me as your team member soon. I look forward to your positive response in this matter.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing your feelings about the performance, detailing your musical background, and explaining how you would like the singer to assist you. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a performer, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development of the third point is slightly brief; while you mention joining the academy, explaining how the singer's mentorship specifically would help your career goals would have added more depth. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your narrative. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'Also' to link your sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the connection between the concert description and your personal musical background could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion, ensuring the structure remains coherent throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'melodious', 'enthusiastically', and 'imaginative'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'dragged me into a different imaginative world' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'enjoyed meals in food court' (which lacks an article). While you successfully communicate your message, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions related to music and performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'which I attend last month' (should be 'attended'), 'live music concert' (missing article), and 'entered in the concert hall' (preposition error). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the overall meaning of your letter. You show a good attempt at using varied sentence structures, but more attention to verb tenses and article usage would improve your accuracy significantly. The punctuation is generally correct throughout the text.
