Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Aditya,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my satisfaction with your concert which I attended last month.
For the first time I attended live music concert of my favourite singer and it was amazing experience for me. When I entered the concert hall, it was packed with an audience. At the beginning of the concert, they were enjoying live performance and sang songs along with you and danced enthusiastically. It was such a beautiful moment for me, your melodious voice transported me into a different imaginative world and I felt more relaxed and refreshed. I took a number of photos of a live concert and enjoyed meals in the food court with my friends. I have completed a music course and I can play the violin and the drums. Additionally, I took part in a lot of national music competitions and won medals for my excellent performance. I want to join your music academy in order to improve my musical skills and become a part of your team. Also, I will play the violin or the drums in your concert for adding more charm and energy into it. I hope you consider my request and accept me as your team member soon. I look forward to your positive response in this matter. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly expressed your feelings about the performance, provided relevant details about your musical background (violin and drums), and explained your request for mentorship or collaboration. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a performer, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between your musical activities and your request for help is more deeply developed; for instance, explaining exactly what specific techniques you hope to learn from him would add more depth to your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the concert experience to your personal background and finally to your request. You use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally' and 'Also' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is quite limited; the entire body of the letter is contained in one large block. Breaking this into distinct paragraphs—one for the concert experience, one for your musical background, and one for your request—would significantly improve the structure and make the letter easier to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'melodious', 'enthusiastically', and 'consideration'. The language is generally natural and appropriate for the context. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'took a number of photos of a live concert' (should be 'the' live concert) and 'adding more charm' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context). Overall, you have sufficient vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly, though using more precise collocations would elevate your writing to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'When I entered the concert hall, it was packed with an audience.' While there are some grammatical slips, such as 'I attended live music concert' (missing an article) and 'for adding more charm' (should be 'to add'), these errors do not impede communication. Your control of tense is generally consistent. To improve, focus on article usage and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid minor errors.
