Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sunidhi,

I hope you are doing well. I would like to introduce myself, my name is Twinkal Bodala, I have attained your concert at Vadodara last night. It was on of the best concert I have ever attained so far.

Among all the singers who performed last night, I loved your voice the most. Your vocals were amazing and the sound of your voice was incredible. The way you were singing, you were spreading something magical in the air. It was one of the most memorial nights of my life. I loved your song "just go to hell", I am currently going through a break up and honestly that song helped me a lot in my moving on journey. I was over the moon when you did sing that song last night.

If you meet the singer Badshah, please let him know all people were screaming on his name when he came on the stage, he was the one who did start the concert and trust me all the girls were melting in his charisma. Also, I loved the photograph you let me captured with you in the end of the event.

I am trying to learn the traditional music and I know that with hip-hop, you are also a traditional singer, I would really appreciate if you would make some YouTube videos and upload it on your music channel.

Yours faithfully,

Twinkal Bodala

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You expressed your feelings about the performance, mentioned your interest in traditional music, and requested help with your musical activities. However, the letter is slightly off-focus in the third paragraph, where you spend significant space discussing another singer, Badshah, rather than focusing on your own musical activities or the recipient. While the task is largely fulfilled, the development of your musical activities is somewhat thin. To improve, ensure that every paragraph directly relates to the specific instructions provided in the prompt to maintain a tighter focus on the recipient.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate different ideas, which helps the reader follow your train of thought. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt, and the shift to discussing Badshah feels disconnected from the main purpose of the letter. Using more varied cohesive devices, such as 'Furthermore' or 'In addition to this,' would help improve the flow between your points. Overall, the message is easy to follow, but the logical progression could be tightened to ensure every sentence serves the primary purpose of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a good range of vocabulary, using phrases like 'over the moon' and 'melting in his charisma' to convey emotion. There are some minor collocation errors, such as 'attained your concert' (should be 'attended') and 'let me captured' (should be 'let me capture'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do show a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, focus on using more accurate collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Your tone is generally appropriate for a fan letter, being enthusiastic and personal, which is a strength.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'It was on of the best concert' (should be 'one of the best concerts') and 'did sing' (unnecessary emphasis). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as comma splices in the first paragraph. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of auxiliary verbs. Practicing proofreading for common errors like pluralization and tense consistency will help you achieve a higher score.
