Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Armaan,

I am writing to share my fantastic experience I had at your concert.

The moment the flyers were out to announce the concert, I knew I had to attend it because I have been listening to your songs since very long.

I attended the concert held last week at Super Grounds, Toronto with my family. We were eagerly waiting for your performance to start and every bit of it was magical once you began performing . You voice is so mesmerizing that we all just sang along and felt the emotions simultaneously .I personally was overwhelmed with the song that you sung at last.

I myself have a great interest in music and a great fascination for playback singing . I have sung and performed at various events organized at state level but I definitely wish to perform at a bigger level someday. Since you have attained heights of success in your career and won millions of heart with your extraordinary talent , I believe you will value my singing skills and give me a chance to perform with you.

I will really appreciate this opportunity and would like to collaborate in music festivals . I wish to see you soon .

Thanks and Regards

Man

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly expressed your feelings about the concert, provided relevant details about your own musical background, and made a specific request for collaboration. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a performer, maintaining a respectful and enthusiastic register throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between your musical activities and the request for help is slightly more nuanced, perhaps by explaining exactly what kind of collaboration you are seeking, such as mentorship or a guest performance slot, rather than a general request.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your narrative easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Since you have attained' and 'The moment the flyers were out', to link your thoughts. However, the transition between paragraphs could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disconnected, and the use of cohesive devices is occasionally mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, ensuring that the relationship between your personal experience and your request is more explicitly stated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using words like 'mesmerizing', 'overwhelmed', and 'extraordinary' effectively to convey your enthusiasm. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'since very long' (should be 'for a long time') and 'attained heights of success' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message clearly and with some style, it lacks the consistent precision and natural collocation required for a higher band. Focusing on learning common collocations and idiomatic expressions related to music and professional requests would enhance your writing significantly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'the song that you sung at last' (should be 'sang') and 'won millions of heart' (should be 'hearts'). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as spaces before periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage. Proofreading your work for small slips in pluralization and verb forms will help you achieve greater accuracy.
