Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Guri

i hope you are feeling well, i want to talk about your recent performance on our local society event concert. i would like to tell you that when you start your singing carrier i really liked your voice and words that you use while during your musical songs that really touched heart of mine all the time and your all songs are family friendly. about your recent performance i really like concept of starting and ending. all songs was fabulous that you sung during that period of time. i was totally impressed by your confidence because on that hall electricity was gone for 15 mints but how you handle everything was i have no words for that. secondly, in this era every singer uses autotunes during singing but i saw your live without electricity as well. your voice is original as i hear from your songs as well.

lastly, after one month me and my friends raised funds for poor kids for education and we need your help if you can help us. if you have time for this cause we just need your 1 hour for that event where you perform and we raise funds for kids for their better future. please send your conformation i will send you all details about that event.

i look forward for your reply.

thank you so much for your patience and your valuable time

warmly

Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You expressed your appreciation for the singer's performance, described your involvement in fundraising for children's education, and clearly explained how you would like him to assist with your activities. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a performer, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are developed with more precision; for instance, while you mention your musical activities, providing a bit more detail about your specific role or the nature of your group would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the performance review to your personal activities and finally to the request for assistance. You use some cohesive devices like 'secondly' and 'lastly' to structure your points. However, the paragraphing is somewhat inconsistent, and the flow between sentences can be a bit mechanical. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus. The transition between the praise for the singer and the request for help could be smoother to create a more cohesive narrative.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, using terms like 'fabulous', 'impressed', and 'original'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'singing carrier' instead of 'singing career' and 'on that hall' instead of 'in that hall'. Additionally, 'conformation' is used incorrectly when you likely meant 'confirmation'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they indicate a need for more precise control over vocabulary and collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'all songs was fabulous'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'you sung' instead of 'you sang'), and punctuation errors, particularly with missing capital letters and commas. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tense usage, as well as refining your use of articles and prepositions.
