Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing your feelings about the performance, detailing your musical activities, and requesting help. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, and the purpose is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention your musical activities, the explanation of how you would like him to help you is a bit repetitive and lacks specific detail regarding the nature of the sessions you are requesting. To improve, try to expand on your musical goals and provide more context for your request to ensure the reader fully understands your ambition.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Also' and 'I hope to', but the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical. There are instances where the flow is slightly interrupted by grammatical errors, such as the sentence fragment 'which was on 23rd April'. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus to improve the overall progression of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'overjoy' (though this should be 'overjoyed') and 'participating'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'wroth buying' instead of 'worth buying' and 'taken classes from same school' instead of 'attended the same school'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and checking the correct form of adjectives and verbs to ensure your language is more natural and accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a good start. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Examples include 'I hope this letter find you well' (should be 'finds'), 'i have attented' (should be 'I attended'), and 'I would be every greatful' (should be 'very grateful'). Additionally, there are issues with verb tense consistency and article usage. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall quality of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
