Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Mr. smith,
I hope your are doing well. I am writing to express your appreciation regarding college's concert, which I attended last week.
I am feeling outstanding and priceless about your performance, as that was an exceptional concert. However, I enjoyed this event , and other singer's performances but you were so much energetic. Ultimately, i have become a big fan of you.
In addition, It was the first musical event that was held by college's management. I booked my tickets online, and we were four people including my class mates. The concert was about 10 miles away, and we hired a taxi to cover this distance.
I would like to appreciate it because after visited your concert, i am feeling over the moon. Apart from this, I was under stress duet to my final exam' s burden but I am feeling so much positive towards to pass my exams. I hope you will continue give this kind of performances in the near future that would be beneficial for youth.
I look forward to your prompt response.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points, but the development is uneven. While you express your feelings about the performance, the section regarding your own musical activities is missing entirely. You mention attending the concert and your feelings, but you fail to explain what your own musical activities are or how the singer could help you with them. This is a significant omission that prevents the response from fully addressing the prompt. To improve, ensure each bullet point is given a dedicated paragraph with specific details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as the use of 'However' to start a sentence that does not contrast with the previous one. The transition between ideas is occasionally abrupt, and the logical flow is hindered by the lack of focus on the required task points. Using a wider range of linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition to this' would help improve the flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'feeling outstanding and priceless' is not a natural way to describe an emotional reaction to a concert. Similarly, 'so much energetic' should be 'so energetic'. There are also minor spelling errors like 'duet' instead of 'due'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise adjectives and ensuring that your word choices sound natural in the context of a formal or semi-formal letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You make frequent errors with articles ('the college's management'), subject-verb agreement ('your are doing well'), and prepositional usage ('towards to pass'). Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with the placement of apostrophes in 'exam' s' and 'class mates'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to lower the score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical rules and sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
