Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Max,

Hope you are doing well.

I want to show my wonderful experience and a big fan moment with you. Recently, I went to concert that was organised by music production team in downtown, Toronto at 17th August. There were so many great singers but you are the one which inspire me most.

I still remember when you came to stage crowd went crazy. All of us enjoying all your high notes in music and the way you keep changing your vocal according to sound. Beside this, the other thing I love most about you is the your speciality in singing in both men and women voice which make me think about that there are two different person in front of me.

Furthermore, I am also learning about singing in dual voices and how to correlate them with different sounds. Additionally, I also produce so many songs and recreated yours songs too on my YouTube.

I just wondering if you give me some teaching lessons how to upgrade my skill, so that i can also make beautiful image like yours in the society. At the end it can only happen with your help.

Please let me know how do you feel about this. Thank you of your time.

Regards,

Kiran.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: expressing feelings about the performance, detailing musical activities, and requesting help. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the singer's vocal range is a bit repetitive, and the request for help is slightly vague. To improve, you could provide more specific details about the 'dual voice' technique you are learning or explain exactly what kind of 'teaching lessons' you are seeking. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of the content could be enhanced to better engage the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'At the end', which help guide the reader through your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the your speciality' and 'the other thing I love most'. The flow between sentences is generally clear, but improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between your personal musical activities and the request for help would elevate the coherence of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'production team', 'vocal', and 'correlate'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'big fan moment', 'make beautiful image', and 'recreated yours songs'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more precise vocabulary usage. To reach a higher band, focus on learning common collocations and using more sophisticated phrasing to express your admiration and your musical goals, rather than relying on direct translations or informal expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I just wondering if you give me', 'Thank you of your time', and 'how do you feel about this' (which should be a statement rather than a question). There are also issues with articles and pluralization, such as 'came to stage' and 'two different person'. While these errors rarely impede the overall meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions to improve your accuracy.
