Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sushant,
I am writing this letter to praise your performance during the concert, which I was able to attend on August 1st. I really liked your singing skills and I enjoyed it a lot. As I am beginning my musical career, I would be grateful if you could help me with some training or even if you could suggest me with a name of a trainer he attended.
Your performance as a singer was great, being a starter, you performed well in your concerts. I was pleased to hear you and enjoyed every moment I was there.
I am also begining my musical career. I recently started to take music class but I do not think its enough for me. I am not satisfied with my performance from the class I am attending.
Hence, I would like you to give me a certain time of your busy schedule for some help in my performance. Further, If you are not available I would be really grateful if you could suggest me a trainer whom you went for the classes.
I thank you in advance and will be waiting for your prompt reply.
Sincerely,
Subas Bhugai

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: expressing your feelings about the performance, describing your musical activities, and requesting help. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for example, you mention your musical career and your dissatisfaction with current classes in two separate paragraphs. To improve, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-developed point rather than restating information. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the request for assistance is specific, which satisfies the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level of task completion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Hence' and 'Further' to link your ideas. However, the flow between paragraphs is slightly disjointed due to the repetition of information regarding your musical background. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the praise for the concert and the request for help could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph builds upon the previous one without unnecessary overlap.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'musical career' and 'prompt reply'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'suggest me with a name' (should be 'suggest a name to me') and 'trainer whom you went for the classes' (should be 'trainer you went to'). The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of collocations would help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'begining' (spelling), 'its enough' (missing apostrophe), and 'suggest me' (incorrect verb pattern). Additionally, there are some awkward phrasings like 'being a starter, you performed well'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of prepositions and verb patterns after reporting verbs like 'suggest'.
