Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I really exited to share my thoughts about your performance in the concert. Firstly, i am a fan of your singing and writing, when I went your concert i was not very happy because of my health issues, but now I am feeling over the moon to see your performance and dancing performance.

Moreover., i love singing and taking guitar classes in evening after my college, i am learning lots of tunes with guitar and i think this is the best moments of my life.

Furthermore, i saw you and your singing from 10 year, and I want to learn from you numerous things like musical instruments, singing and performance because I think you are the best singer in the world. I like your way of talking and encourage youth to be independent. Also, i want your help with my musical instruments and singing.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Kind reagrds,

Ria.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: expressing feelings about the performance, describing musical activities, and requesting help. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the request for help is vague, as you do not specify exactly what kind of guidance you need beyond 'musical instruments and singing'. To improve, ensure that your ideas are more fully extended; for instance, you could explain which specific instrument you are struggling with or what aspect of your singing technique you hope to improve. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a performer, though the opening 'Dear Sir/Madam' is slightly formal given the context of writing to a specific singer you admire.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link your points. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as the punctuation error 'Moreover.,'. Additionally, the flow between sentences could be smoother; some transitions feel a bit abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraphing is used to group related ideas more effectively, rather than just separating the bullet points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'over the moon' and 'encourage youth to be independent'. However, there are several instances of word choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'I really exited' (should be 'I was really excited') and 'I saw you and your singing from 10 year' (should be 'I have been following your music for 10 years'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your verb tenses and word forms are accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and punctuation. For instance, 'i am a fan' should be capitalized, and 'when I went your concert' is missing a preposition ('to'). There are also issues with sentence fragments and run-on sentences. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. Working on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms will help improve your score.
