Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: expressing feelings about the performance, describing musical activities, and requesting help. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the description of your musical activities is brief and lacks detail regarding your experience or skill level. The request for help is also somewhat abrupt. To improve, you should expand on your ideas by providing more specific details—such as how long you have played the drums or what specific musical styles you enjoy—to better engage the reader and fulfill the requirements of a formal letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, 'Sum up' is not a standard way to begin a concluding paragraph; 'In summary' or 'To conclude' would be more appropriate. Additionally, the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed, and the use of punctuation, particularly spacing around commas and periods, is inconsistent and distracting. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help your ideas progress more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You rely on simple phrases like 'liked concert a lot' and 'songs were on point.' While these convey meaning, they are informal and repetitive. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'drumbeat' when referring to the instrument (the drum) and 'band team' which is redundant. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and precise terminology related to music and performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('a part of musical show'), incorrect verb tenses ('I use to play'), and issues with subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also a significant area for improvement, as there are unnecessary spaces before punctuation marks throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, these frequent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for small errors will be beneficial.
