Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The candidate has addressed all parts of the task prompt, successfully including how they feel about the singer's performance, details of musical activities, and an explanation of how they would like to help the singer with his musical activities. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, and the response covers the required bullet points adequately. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive in places. For instance, the discussion on helping the singer focuses heavily on eating light food and drinking water, which is a bit simplistic and lacks further extension. Nevertheless, the main communicative goals are met, placing this response securely at Band 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter lacks proper paragraphing and cohesive control. Many sentences are grouped together without clear logical transitions, and punctuation is frequently misused or missing, such as lowercase letters at the start of sentences and after full stops (e.g., 'i am writing this letter i went...', 'furthemore'). While the writer attempts to use cohesive devices like 'firstly', 'also', and 'moreover', their application is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'in addidtonally'. The overall progression of ideas is hindered by frequent structural fragmentation and run-on sentences. This corresponds to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable spelling and word choice errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of lexical errors include 'singining', 'perfom', 'performace', 'rembered', 'addidtonally', and 'duriing'. The writer attempts some less common phrases like 'fashion sense' and 'musical activities', but the overall range is limited to simple and familiar terms. Idiomatic language attempts, such as 'i was on the seven even' (intended as 'seventh heaven'), are incorrect and further restrict the lexical score. Therefore, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex structures that contain severe errors. Grammatical inaccuracies are pervasive throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement errors ('all singers were perfom to good', 'i would like to you help'), tense inconsistencies ('u was singing', 'i had enjoy'), and missing articles or prepositions ('i went to the stage'). Punctuation is largely neglected, with comma splices and missing capitalisation. Because these frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and distort meaning in places, the performance meets the criteria for Band 4.5.
