Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my happiness after attending your concert. I have been a very big fan of you from my childhood, and after this event, I felt like a dream come true. It was an outstanding performance, and your voice was stunning and gave goosebumps to the audience. I was waiting for this day for the last 2 months.
I have been learning classical music for the last 5 years, and you are my role model. I am following you on your YouTube channel and trying to follow all your tips which is given by you.
I am also performing on a small stage, and many times I have received recognition for that.
If there is any chance to get tips from you would be very grateful for me. I would like to be a singer like you, and it would be possible if I could get guidance from you. I would like to send some videos of my singing, if you allow.
Thank you for this concert and for your attention to the audience. I will be waiting for your positive reply.
With regards,
Dipti Sarah.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task instructions. You clearly stated how you felt about the singer's performance, mentioning that it was an outstanding and stunning experience that felt 'like a dream come true.' You also provided relevant details of your musical activities, noting that you have been learning classical music for five years and performing on a small stage. Furthermore, you explained how you would like him to help you by asking for tips, guidance, and permission to send singing videos. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, although starting with 'Dear Sir' is slightly formal given the familiarity expressed in the body. Overall, all parts of the prompt are addressed adequately, meeting the criteria for Band 6.5 to 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter maintains a clear and coherent overall arrangement, with each paragraph dedicated to a specific part of the prompt. For example, the first paragraph focuses on the concert experience, the second on musical background, and the third on the request for guidance. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, referencing and cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or basic. Phrases like 'I am also performing' and 'If there is any chance' could be linked more fluidly. There are minor referencing issues, such as 'which is given by you' in the second paragraph, which detract slightly from smooth progression. Progression is generally clear, placing this submission firmly at a Band 6.5 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your feelings and musical background quite clearly. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'outstanding performance,' 'role model,' and 'recognition,' which demonstrates a reasonable lexical range. However, there are some word choice and collocation inaccuracies. For instance, writing 'a very big fan of you from my childhood' is slightly unnatural; 'a huge fan since my childhood' would be more idiomatic. Additionally, phrases like 'tips which is given by you' contain repetitive or awkward phrasing. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching Band 7.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You successfully use present perfect continuous structures, such as 'I have been learning classical music for the last 5 years,' and conditional clauses in your third paragraph. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward constructions throughout the text. For example, 'If there is any chance to get tips from you would be very grateful for me' lacks a clear subject for the main clause. There is also a subject-verb agreement error with 'tips which is given by you' (should be 'are given'). Punctuation is generally fine, but the structural flaws place your grammar score at a Band 6.0.
