Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Diljit dosanjh,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I recently enjoyed your concert which took place in Scotia arena Toronto on August 27th. It was my first ever live concert with my family members as from my childhood I was listening to your music as your true fan.

What's impressed me alot was band intreaction with live audience as well as bhangra performed live with Singh bhangra club members.Although,I am also very interested in playing guitar with live music, I regularly practice at home in my spare time, but I feel like i still have a lot to learn. especially, when it comes to performing infornt of large audience.

I would be extermely grateful if you could provide me some advice on improving my musical skills. if possible, I would also appreciate a few guitar lesson as well asn singing that could help me in improving mhy techniques. Even short meeting or some recommendation would be very greatful deal to me.

Thank you once again for such as memorable performace. I hope to heart you perform again soon.

best regards

Saurav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The candidate has successfully covered all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, you clearly expressed your feelings about the concert by stating how much you enjoyed it and mentioning specific aspects like the live band interaction and bhangra performance. Second, you provided details of your musical activities, explaining that you regularly practice playing the guitar at home. Third, you explained how you would like the singer to help you by asking for advice, guitar lessons, and potential recommendations. The tone is appropriately polite and enthusiastic for a letter to a singer. All parts of the task are well addressed, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression and logical organisation, divided into appropriate paragraphs that correspond to the prompt requirements. Ideas flow reasonably well from your appreciation of the concert to your own musical background and finally your request for help. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'Although' and 'if possible', though some referencing and transitions could be smoother. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the message clearly. However, minor mechanical slips in punctuation and sentence boundaries prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, coherence and cohesion meet the criteria for a Band 6.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common phrases such as 'true fan', 'live audience', and 'extremely grateful'. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'intreaction' instead of 'interaction', 'infornt' instead of 'infront', 'extermely' instead of 'extremely', and 'mhy' instead of 'my'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate persistent inaccuracies that place your vocabulary score at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'although' and conditional structures like 'if possible, I would also appreciate...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips, including run-on sentences and comma splices, such as in 'I regularly practice at home in my spare time, but I feel like i still have a lot to learn. especially, when...' and lowercase letters at the start of sentences or after full stops ('if you could', 'heart you perform'). These errors indicate limited control over punctuation and sentence boundaries, aligning your grammar score with Band 6.0.
