Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter successfully covers all three bullet points outlined in the prompt. You state how you feel about the singer's performance, mentioning that it makes you feel fresh and stress-free. You also provide details of your musical activities, explaining that you play the guitar and write tones during your free time. Furthermore, you clearly explain how you would like him to help you by asking for guidance on building guitar tones and writing lyrics. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, maintaining a polite and enthusiastic register throughout. All parts of the task are adequately addressed, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter has a generally coherent overall arrangement, following a standard informal letter structure with a greeting and sign-off. However, paragraphing is somewhat problematic; the body of the letter is condensed into a couple of long, run-on paragraphs rather than being neatly divided by topic. Additionally, cohesive devices are weak, relying heavily on basic conjunctions like 'and' and 'so' instead of varied linking words. Referencing is occasionally repetitive, which detracts from the flow. Clearer segmentation of paragraphs corresponding to each bullet point would significantly improve the structural progression of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but it tends to be repetitive and somewhat simplistic, using words like 'good' and 'free time' multiple times. There are also a few lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'inner touch' instead of 'admiration' or 'appreciation', and 'write some tones regarding my instrument'. While you attempt some less common vocabulary, the inaccuracies in word choice and spelling mistakes like 'imrpove' and 'helpfull' prevent a higher score. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and refining your phrasal choices will enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but punctuation is a notable weak point. There are several run-on sentences and comma splices, particularly in the second paragraph where multiple clauses are strung together without proper full stops or conjunctions (e.g., 'The performance you gave in the concert feels so good and i loved it, Music albums and background scores...'). Furthermore, there are minor agreement and tense issues, such as 'while i am listening to your music i feels'. Despite these frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, allowing for successful communication.
