Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Karan Aujla,

I am writing this letter to inform you that your performance in recent Toronto concert was unexceptional. I have attended it on September 2, 2026 at scotia arena.

Although, there are 2 more singers were there rather than you but you outshine both of them. According to me, the most credit of concert's success goes to you. I felt overwhelmed and energetic in the whole concert.

I also have degree in music and plays guitar. i tried to sing your songs and also have instagram page with 15k followers. In my collage, I took part in all music compition and acuired prize for the performance. I also wrote 2 songs which I think you will like.

I am sending my songs and audio of my singing with this letter. Please give me a feedback and help me that how can i improve it if there is any fault. I will be very happy if you guide me for my future and show me right path to achieve my goal of becoming writer and singer.

Looking forward for your response.

yOurs faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You successfully covered all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You described how you felt about the performance by stating that you felt 'overwhelmed and energetic' and that he 'outshine both of them'. You provided clear details of your musical activities, mentioning that you have a degree in music, play the guitar, manage an Instagram page with 15k followers, and wrote two songs. Finally, you explained how you would like him to help you by asking for feedback on your songs and guidance for your future career. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, and the purpose is clear throughout. Although there are some minor awkward phrasings like 'unexceptional' when you likely meant exceptional, all parts of the prompt are fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into clear, distinct paragraphs that correspond reasonably well to the different parts of the prompt. You begin with an appropriate salutation, move to the concert review, detail your own musical background, and finish with your request for assistance and a proper sign-off. However, the logical progression is occasionally disrupted by abrupt transitions and mechanical cohesive devices. For instance, 'Although, there are 2 more singers were there rather than you...' uses awkward linking and punctuation. Referencing is generally clear, but paragraphing could be smoother to create a more natural flow between ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and industry-related terms such as 'performance', 'success', 'followers', and 'audio'. However, there are notable lexical inaccuracies and word-choice errors that detract from the writing. For example, using 'unexceptional' seems to be a mistake for 'exceptional' or 'phenomenal', given the positive context of your review. Additionally, there are minor spelling and word-form errors such as 'collage' instead of 'college', 'compition' instead of 'competition', and 'acuired' instead of 'acquired'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they limit your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and concessive clauses ('Although, there are 2 more singers were there rather than you but you outshine both of them'). However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles. Examples include 'I have attended it on September 2' (incorrect past tense instead of simple past), 'most credit of concert's success goes to you' (missing article), 'in the whole concert' (preposition choice), and 'help me that how can i improve it' (faulty clause structure). Punctuation and capitalization errors, such as a lowercase 'i', are also present.
