Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. dosanjh,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my feeling regarding your recent concert which I attended in Toronto.
Last month, I visited to see your music event at Toronto stadium on 15th August at 9:00pm.I was pleased to get an opportunity to watch you singing live there. As I am your biggest fan ever when I saw you sing lots of songs with musicial instruments and without them made me so proud.
On that day, I really enjoyed your concert as I played dance and sang with my friends as well as captured all those memories with all of them, especially your performance made my day when you called me at stage to sing with you.
From last week, I have joined your music academy to polish my skills in it as you told me you usually visit to your academy to see all of student who are learning singing there from experts and you also teach them personally.I would like to request you if you can inform me your next visit date there so I could not miss that chance
I look forward to hear from you.
your sincerly,
gurleen

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the task prompt. You successfully explained how you feel about the performance, mentioning details such as being called onto the stage and enjoying the live music. You also provided details of your musical activities, including joining the singer's music academy last week. Finally, you explained how you would like him to help you by asking for information regarding his next visit date. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, and the ideas are extended reasonably well. However, some sections feel slightly informal and narrative-driven rather than fully developed in terms of professional interaction, which places this firmly at Band 6.5 to 7.0. Overall, all parts of the prompt are addressed clearly and relevantly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical paragraph structure, moving from a polite opening to your feelings about the concert, your musical activities, and a final request. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each main idea, such as in sentences like 'Last month, I visited...' and 'On that day, I really enjoyed...'. Cohesive devices are generally used, though referencing and transition markers can occasionally feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of time markers like 'Last month' and 'From last week'. Paragraph transitions are clear, giving the overall text a coherent structure. While minor linking issues exist, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, making this a solid Band 6.0 performance.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'express my feeling', 'polish my skills', and 'memories'. However, there are some noticeable word-choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher band, such as 'visited to see' instead of 'visited' or 'went to see', 'musicial instruments' with a spelling error, and 'called me at stage' instead of 'called me onto the stage'. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is never impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly throughout the letter, which aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure with sentences like 'I am writing this letter to express my feeling regarding your recent concert which I attended in Toronto.' However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text, including missing capitalization and punctuation marks (e.g., '9:00pm.I was', 'your sincerly'). Furthermore, tense control wobbles slightly, and some clauses are run-on, such as 'as you told me you usually visit to your academy to see all of student...'. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent you from reaching Band 7.
