Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Jungkook,

I am writing to express my feelings about your performance in a Toronto concert.

Last month, I was in Toronto and attended BTS concert which held in Arina stadium. I was fascinated by your voice in Euphoria performance. Moreover, I was impressed by your soft vocal sounds and the way you played guitar. All are so impressive that I can not forget this for the rest of my life.

I want to tell you about my musical practice. When I was a child I lerned how to play guitar from my father. I took special classes to learn guitar. Apart from that, I sing all froms of songs from pop song to classical song. I regularly attend practices session in my school.

I have dream of learning music from your music academy. I know it is really hard to get admission there. Therefore, I would like to request you regarding my admission in your music academy. I have already applied for admission but the waiting time is very long. Therefore, I would be grateful if you could recommend my name to the admission commitee to get me a admission for next batch.

I hope you will consider my request. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Jack Li

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task prompt. You clearly state how you feel about the performance, mentioning being 'fascinated by your voice in Euphoria performance' and impressed by soft vocal sounds and guitar playing. You provide details of your musical activities by explaining that you learned guitar from your father, took special classes, sing various types of songs, and attend regular practice sessions at school. Furthermore, you explain how you would like him to help you by requesting a recommendation for admission to his music academy. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a singer, and all bullet points are well covered and adequately developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter has a clear and logical overall organisation. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: introduction, performance feedback, musical background, and request for help. You make use of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Apart from that', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with clear spacing between sections. Referencing is generally clear, and the letter follows a logical progression from expressing admiration to making a specific personal request.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts to use less common items such as 'fascinated', 'impressed', and 'grateful'. However, there are a few spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'Arina' instead of 'Arena', 'lerned' instead of 'learned', and 'froms' instead of 'forms'. You also write 'practices session' instead of 'practice session' and 'commitee' instead of 'committee'. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, fitting the band 6 profile well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'When I was a child I lerned how to play guitar from my father' and 'I would be grateful if you could recommend my name to the admission commitee'. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as missing articles ('BTS concert which held in Arina stadium' should be 'the BTS concert which was held') and spelling errors affecting verb forms like 'lerned'. However, these errors rarely impede communication, and your sentence structures are generally understandable.
