Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The letter begins by clearly expressing feelings about the singer's performance ('It was spectecular preformance'). Details of the student's musical activities are provided, including learning Indian folk music and coming from a musical family background. Finally, the student explains how they would like help by asking to meet, receive music lessons, and learn authentic folk phrasing. The purpose of the letter is consistently clear and the tone is appropriate for a fan writing to a known artist. Although some points are relatively straightforward and could be more deeply elaborated, all aspects of the prompt are addressed adequately, placing this response securely at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a clear overall arrangement with a logical division of paragraphs, each dedicated to a specific part of the prompt (performance review, musical background, and request for help). The student uses basic cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and referencing words like 'your work' and 'those things' to maintain flow. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and paragraphing could be managed with greater flexibility. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional slight awkwardness in phrasing hinders the natural progression of ideas. Overall, the organizational structure meets the criteria for Band 6.0, providing a coherent reading experience despite minor flaws.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their message about music and admiration. There are several attempts to use less common and topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'musical journey', 'panel of music company', and 'authentic', which shows ambition. However, there are notable spelling errors ('spectecular', 'preformance', 'laerning', 'flok', 'boold', 'pannel', 'greatful', 'succeful', 'alot') and occasional awkward collocations ('music tune', 'melody voice'). These lexical errors and spelling mistakes do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the score to Band 5.5, as accuracy in less common items is inconsistent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and subordinate clauses ('I will be greatful if I can get a chance to meet you...'). There is an adequate range of sentence structures attempted. However, the text contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('attented your concert very first time', 'become succeful singer'), preposition errors ('enjoying on the music tune'), and tense inconsistencies. While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent the writing from achieving a higher band. The control of grammar and punctuation places this response at a Band 5.5.
