Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task prompt. You clearly expressed how you felt about the singer's recent performance by mentioning that it touched your heart and gave you goosebumps, particularly highlighting the dancing and your favorite song. You also included details of your musical activities, such as taking singing classes at the city's best academy and posting performances on social media. Finally, you explained how you would like him to help you by asking for advice on how to overcome the difficulty of playing the guitar while singing. All parts of the prompt are addressed, and the tone is appropriately polite and personal for a General Training letter to a singer, earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter is organised into three distinct paragraphs, which roughly correspond to the introduction and the three bullet points in the prompt. However, the overall cohesion is quite mechanical due to weak punctuation, a lack of capitalisation, and missing transition markers. Sentences sometimes run together, such as in the first paragraph: '...this perform of yours really touch my heart.it literally gives me goosepump...'. While the progression of ideas is logically followable because it mirrors the prompt's structure, the mechanical flow and frequent punctuation errors prevent it from reaching a higher band level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with several spelling and word choice errors. For example, 'discribeto' instead of describe, 'perform' instead of performance, 'goosepump' instead of goosebumps, 'acedmay' instead of academy, 'responce' instead of response, and 'advoice' instead of advice. You attempted some less common phrases like 'touch my heart' and 'social media pages', but the frequent lexical and spelling errors limit the range. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey your message, but the inaccuracies occasionally distract the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The letter demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent basic errors. There are significant issues with punctuation and capitalisation throughout the text, as many sentences begin with lowercase letters and run together without proper periods or commas. Examples of grammatical errors include 'I am writing you this letter for discribeto' (incorrect preposition and infinitive form), 'i just start take classes' (incorrect verb tense and infinitive structure), and 'how can i overcome my this weakness' (double determiners). While the meaning can still be understood, the high frequency of basic grammatical and punctuation errors keeps the score at a band 5.0.
