Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Jass Manak,
I hope you are doing great. I am a big fan of yours. Last saturday. I went to a concert in which you were singing with your co- singers, Manish Sharma and Rahul Singh. The concert held in calgary and i want to share mu experience with you.
The performance was full of energy and the stage lighting was enhancing the beauty of the performance. Before coming to concert, I had a hectic day but when I listened to your voice I forget all the worries and stress. I was feeling rejuvenated after attending your concert.
I really enjoyed you violin performance and one of your song" tere naam" this is one of my favourite songs. I have a deep connection with this song since my childhood.
When i heard about the concert, I made plan with my friends to visit there.
Overall, this was my life's best experience watching you doing live performance.
I also have keen interest in playing violin, it would be great if you can share some tips and experiences, how to prepare for playing this instrument.
Although, i watch many of interviews, which helped me to learn playing violin but I would love to hear from you.
best regards,
Aman Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully covered all parts of the task prompt. You clearly expressed your feelings about the performance, stating that it was full of energy and helped you forget your worries and stress. You also provided details about your musical activities by mentioning your keen interest in playing the violin and your connection to the song 'Tere Naam'. Furthermore, you explained how you would like the singer to help you, specifically asking for tips and experiences on how to prepare for playing the instrument. The tone of the letter is appropriate for a fan writing to a singer. Although some ideas could be slightly more expanded, all bullet points are adequately addressed to meet the requirements of a Band 6.5 or 7.0 task response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and ending. You used paragraphing to separate different topics, such as your reaction to the concert, your specific enjoyment of the violin performance, and your request for musical advice. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. There are minor referencing issues and punctuation slips, such as 'Last saturday. I went...' where a full stop interrupts the flow, and missing capitalisation in places like 'calgary' and 'mu experience'. Paragraph transitions could also be smoother to achieve a higher score. Overall, the logical organisation is clear, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You used an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including phrases like 'hectic day', 'rejuvenated', and 'keen interest'. You also attempted some less common vocabulary items. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'mu experience' instead of 'my experience' and 'many of interviews' instead of 'many interviews'. Furthermore, 'you violin performance' contains a grammatical slip where 'your' was intended. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict your lexical score to Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Before coming to concert, I had a hectic day but when I listened to your voice I forget all the worries and stress.' There are several grammar and punctuation errors throughout the text, including tense consistency ('I forget' instead of 'I forgot'), missing articles ('coming to concert'), and punctuation errors like sentence fragments ('Last saturday. I went...'). Despite these errors, meaning is generally clear and communication is not impeded. This balance of mixed structures and frequent minor errors is characteristic of Band 6.0.
