Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response only partially addresses the task requirements. First, the length requirement is severely compromised, as the text contains only 85 words, falling well short of the 150-word minimum. Furthermore, while the writer touches upon the first bullet point by explaining how they feel about the performance and praising the singer's melodious voice, the remaining bullet points regarding details of the writer's own musical activities and how the singer might help with them are completely omitted. Because the piece stops abruptly mid-sentence, the response addresses the prompt only minimally, leaving core aspects of the task entirely undeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the opening sentences, but the text lacks an overall progression because it cuts off prematurely. The writer attempts to link ideas using standard transitional expressions such as 'to be honest', though referencing becomes slightly unclear, such as when stating 'engaged audience with you'. Paragraphing is absent or poorly handled due to the incomplete nature of the response, and cohesive devices are inadequate to establish a clear structural flow across multiple paragraphs. To reach the next level, the writer would need to develop a cohesive framework with logical paragraph breaks and clearer transitional links connecting fully expanded points.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for a basic personal letter, attempting some less common expressions such as 'sincere appreciation' and 'real melodious voice'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that slightly detract from the quality, such as the misspelling 'perfomance' and the slightly unnatural phrase 'visited' instead of 'attended' a concert. Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the basic message clearly without impeding communication. Incorporating more precise collocations and entirely eliminating spelling inaccuracies would help elevate the lexical score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses such as 'which you sang' and 'that concert was one of the best'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including a missing capital letter at the start of the phrase 'to be honest', a missing article in 'engaged audience', and a slightly awkward prepositional structure in 'engaged audience with you'. Nonetheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede the reader's understanding. To achieve a higher band, the writer would need to demonstrate a wider variety of complex structures with greater grammatical accuracy across a fully completed text.
