Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the prompt minimally, touching upon all three bullet points, but the ideas are limited and under-developed. For the first bullet point, the student mentions that they 'liked and entertained with your music', but this is superficial. Regarding musical activities, the writer states 'i myself has a musical background from my collegfe time', yet fails to elaborate meaningfully on what these activities actually entail. Similarly, the request for help is vague, as seen in the final sentence: 'if i get a chance to meet with you i want to share my instruments for you.' The purpose of the letter is somewhat discernible, but the overall development remains partial and lacks specific detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter shows some basic organization with an appropriate opening salutation and paragraph breaks that separate different thoughts, such as the performance in the first paragraph and the musical background in the third. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. Cohesive devices are minimal, inadequate, or slightly repetitive, relying heavily on basic linkers like 'in the addition' and 'in this regard'. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, which prevents the ideas from linking smoothly together to guide the reader effortlessly through the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common phrases, such as 'heart catching' and 'heartbreaking lyrics', but these reveal awkward collocations or inaccurate word choices. There are also noticeable spelling and word form errors throughout the text, including 'bacjground', 'collegfe', 'modle', and 'beome'. While these errors do not completely obscure the intended message, they cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range that prevents the writing from achieving a higher level of precision and style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few basic attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, such as 'i just participated' mixed with present tense inconsistencies, as well as problems with prepositions and capitalization (such as lowercase 'i'). For instance, phrases like 'yesterday night' instead of 'last night' and awkward prepositional use in 'share my instruments for you' demonstrate a lack of control. These frequent grammatical errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader.
