Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mr. Aditya Gadhavi,

I am writing this letter to appreciate your talent and my ambitions towards music.

I attended the 'Halo Ne Ramiye Raas' event which is currently in the headlines as it is the garba world tour. The concert under this tour will promote the cultural heritage of Gujarat to the International level. In addition, you performed so immensely that all the audience were dancing and enjoying it. Especially talking about how I liked the performance I'd say it was soothing and soulful every one from every age group can enjoy your music.

Adding further to the topic I would like to tell you about my interest in music as well as my ambitions. I have attached a copy of my work so that you can listen to it and guide me further to achieve success. I would love to work under your guidence and to improve my musical skills.

I am liiking forward to hearing from you.

Warm regards,

Darshan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, though some points are developed more fully than others. You clearly express your admiration for the performance by stating it was 'soothing and soulful'. You also mention your musical activities and interest in music by explaining that you have 'attached a copy of my work', and you successfully cover the final bullet point by stating 'I would love to work under your guidence'. However, some ideas remain slightly limited in depth; for instance, the details of your own musical activities could be expanded beyond simply mentioning a copy of your work. The tone is appropriately polite and semi-formal for a letter to a singer, keeping the purpose of communication clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from praising the performance to discussing your own music and requesting help. Paragraphing is used reasonably well to separate different topics, such as the event details in the second paragraph and your ambitions in the third. Cohesive devices are present, including phrases like 'In addition' and 'Adding further to the topic', though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel a bit mechanical. Overall, the message flows naturally from start to finish, and the structure meets the expectations of a standard correspondence task well.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'cultural heritage' and 'soothing and soulful'. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice errors that do not impede communication, such as 'guidence' instead of guidance and 'liiking' instead of looking. You also use the phrase 'performed so immensely', which is slightly unnatural in collocation. Despite these occasional slips, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, allowing you to express your thoughts and feelings about the music without causing confusion for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a decent command of grammar. Sentences such as 'I am writing this letter to appreciate your talent and my ambitions towards music' and 'I have attached a copy of my work so that you can listen to it' show that you can combine clauses effectively. There are some minor errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('all the audience' instead of 'the whole audience') and minor phrasing issues, but these errors rarely impede communication and your overall meaning remains easy to follow throughout the letter.
