Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the main parts of the task by mentioning the concert performance, musical activities, and a request for help, but the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the details regarding the writer's musical activities and the request to join the crew are brief and lack sufficient elaboration. Furthermore, the letter opens with 'Dear Sir,' rather than addressing the singer directly as requested by the prompt. Additionally, the response falls short of the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it contains only 137 words. To reach a higher band, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fully met and extend all bullet points with more specific details and fully realized explanations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into logical paragraphs covering different parts of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' are used to sequence the points, though some links feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in their introduction. Referencing is generally clear, and the progression from praising the performance to discussing personal musical activities follows a logical path. To achieve a higher level, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that paragraph transitions flow more naturally without relying on formulaic transition words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to express basic ideas about the concert and musical background. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and form, such as 'attanded', 'rocking concert', and 'marvalous', along with slight awkwardness in phrasing like 'concert related to the performance by you'. While these errors do not completely prevent communication, they cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve this score, the writer needs to expand their lexical range beyond basic terms, incorporate more precise collocations, and eliminate spelling and word-formation errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including tense misuse such as 'I have attanded you rocking concert', incorrect pronoun forms like 'performance of your crew' instead of possessive patterns, and preposition issues. These frequent errors cause strain for the reader. To move up to the next band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with good control, significantly reducing error frequency in verb tenses and agreement.
