Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Singh,
The intent of this correspondence is to praise your incredible performance at your recent concert, which took place in toronto last sunday.
Regarding this live performance, I would love to highlight a few important observations. To begin with, concert was extraordinary entertaining and mesmerising. To add to this, all crowd were cheering your name loudly and trying to sang song with you proudly.
Furthermore, It was pride moment when you collab indian and canadian national antheme together. Basically, you sang 17 hindi songs, Although "meri aashiqui tum hi ho" was my favourite one. It was my dream to becoming piaonist at your concert.
I was wondering if I can perform with your band team for next concert, I've seven year experience of piano playing. On top of that, I've already performed state level with rajkumar khurana, he was so amazed with my skill. I am very pleased to ask you about accepting my offer.
I extend my appreciation for your consideration and I anticipate your valued response at your earliest convenience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you praise the concert, describe your piano experience, and ask to perform with the singer’s band. Specific details such as the 17 Hindi songs, your favourite song, and your seven years of experience make the letter relevant. The request for help is also clear, though it is framed mainly as an offer to perform rather than explaining what support or guidance you would like from the singer. Some ideas are less fully developed: for example, you mention performing at state level with Rajkumar Khurana but do not explain what you played or how this experience prepares you to join the band. The response already shows clear task coverage; developing these points and making the requested help more explicit would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from praise to musical details and then to your request, with separate paragraphs helping the reader follow the main points. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore” and “On top of that” show an effort to connect ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is occasionally unclear—for instance, the sentence about combining the Indian and Canadian anthems is followed by the number of Hindi songs without a clear link. The final formal closing is appropriate, but the overall tone shifts between conversational enthusiasm and very formal expressions such as “valued response at your earliest convenience.” Use simpler, more natural transitions and make each paragraph’s focus more consistent.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for the letter, including expressive choices such as “mesmerising,” “extraordinary,” and “appreciation.” These help convey enthusiasm, and the reader can understand your main message. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural word combinations, including “extraordinary entertaining,” “all crowd,” and “collab … national antheme.” Some spelling and word-form choices, such as “piaonist” and “anthem,” also reduce precision. The formal phrases “the intent of this correspondence” and “valued response” sound overly stiff for a personal letter to a singer. Aim for natural collocations and a consistent friendly tone; accurate, straightforward wording will be more effective than formal language used unnaturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including longer sentences with clauses, as in “I was wondering if I can perform with your band team for next concert.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. Examples include the missing article in “concert was extraordinary,” the incorrect verb form in “trying to sang,” and the tense and agreement problems in “Although ‘meri aashiqui tum hi ho’ was my favourite one.” The sentence joining your request and experience with a comma also needs clearer punctuation or a conjunction. Review articles, verb forms after “to” and “trying,” and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences easier to read.
