Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John, I am writing to convey my heartfelt fecilitations in regards to your performance in annual concert, held last night. Your performance, amongst other singers, was truly outstanding. For me, the highlight of the entire concert was the moment when you started singing a song titled as "I need you in my heart all the time". That song instantly captivated the entire crowd. I take pride in telling you that this was one of your memorable performance in recent times. You truly deserve all the appreciations.
Needless to mention that I am a huge fan of your musical work. I am also a singer. On weekends, I perform at silver Bar, hotel hilton, from 07:00PM to midnight.
I earnestly request you to visit hotel hilton, this Friday, if covenient. It would be an honor for me to sing before you. This will also provides me with an opportunity to learn about some musical tips from your experience so that I can also improve my singing. Looking forward to welcome you.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you praise the singer’s performance, describe your own weekend singing at a hotel bar, and invite him to visit so you can perform for him and learn from his experience. The specific reference to the song and the concert makes your appreciation convincing. This meets the task well, and the request is clear. However, the details of your musical activities are brief, and the kind of help you hope to receive is expressed generally as “some musical tips.” To strengthen the response, explain what you would like advice on—for example, vocal technique or stage presence—and give a little more context about your performances. The letter already shows some development, but not all points are equally extended.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: it begins with praise, moves to your own musical background, and ends with an invitation and request. The paragraph breaks help distinguish these purposes, while phrases such as “Needless to mention” and “This will also” connect ideas. The reader can follow the message without difficulty. Some links feel formulaic, however, and the transition from describing your singing to asking John to visit could be smoother. The closing also follows the invitation rather abruptly. A more natural sequence of linking phrases, alongside a brief sentence explaining why his visit would be valuable, would make the progression more fluid and cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a personal letter, including expressive phrases such as “heartfelt” and “captivated the entire crowd,” as well as music-related language such as “perform” and “singing.” These choices communicate enthusiasm and make the purpose clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations: “fecilitations” is misspelled and does not fit the intended meaning, “all the appreciations” is unnatural, and “a song titled as” is not idiomatic. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “silver Bar” and “hotel hilton.” Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling and proper names carefully; this would make your vocabulary more controlled and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the relative clause in “the moment when you started singing” and the purpose clause “so that I can also improve my singing.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the errors do not prevent the reader from following your request. Some grammatical inaccuracies are present, though. For example, “one of your memorable performance” needs plural agreement, “This will also provides” has an incorrect verb form, and “Looking forward to welcome you” needs a gerund after “to” in this expression. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention. Proofreading for agreement, verb patterns, and punctuation would improve accuracy while preserving your varied sentence structures.
