Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you praise the singer’s live performance, describe how his songs inspired your musical interests, and ask to collaborate on recording an original song. The enthusiasm is clear in details such as seeing him perform live and learning instruments and singing. This covers the task well, but some points are less fully developed: your musical activities remain general, and the request does not explain what kind of help or collaboration you hope for. Adding a specific detail—for example, your instrument, performance experience, or the singer’s role in recording—would make the ideas more complete. The letter’s purpose and tone are appropriate overall, though a more polished closing would strengthen the presentation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall shape: an opening that explains why you are writing, a paragraph about your musical background, and a final paragraph making your request. This helps the reader follow the main progression. You also use basic links such as “First of all,” “after that,” and “Although.” However, some connections are mechanical or unclear: “Although” does not introduce a contrasting idea, and the long opening paragraph moves between praise, the concert, and your reaction without clear separation. Paragraphing is helpful, but the ideas within paragraphs could be ordered more deliberately. Use transitions that show the actual relationship between ideas, and separate your concert reaction from your musical background to make the letter flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary to express admiration and musical interests, including “inspiration,” “passion,” “concert,” “instruments,” and “original song.” These choices make your purpose understandable and show some willingness to use expressive language. However, inaccurate word choice, spelling, and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make phrases difficult to interpret, as in “attain your concert,” “goose bum,” and “specialize with it.” Several expressions also sound unnatural for a personal letter, such as “express my feeling toward you.” Aim for familiar, precise combinations rather than translating phrases directly. Checking spelling and choosing natural collocations would improve clarity while preserving your enthusiastic tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including the sentence beginning “Although, I want a small favour…” and the explanation of how your interest developed. The overall meaning can usually be followed, but errors occur frequently in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. Examples include “I hope you're find,” “I would like to said,” and “songs that bring me direction,” where the verb forms or agreement are not controlled. Some sentences also run together, particularly in the opening, making punctuation and clause boundaries unclear. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea at a time, then add subordinate clauses carefully. Review past-tense forms and subject–verb agreement, and proofread punctuation.
