Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. Mike,

I hope you are doing well. I am really glad after attending your musical concert in Toranto. I am writing this letter to express my joy after that concert.

To begin with, Last month, I had a privilage to attend your live concert in the town which was an amazing experience for me. Moreover, I felt really happy after that concert and my friends were having a fun in your concert.

However, we have done several musical activities like open mic music. That was really fun event that night. In addition to that, we have played guitar as a part of the event. Overall, it has been an amazing experience for us. I would like you to assist me with my new musical instrument which I have never tried in my life. It would be great help for me. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Once again, I would like to thank you for an amazing musical night.

Yours sincerely,

Riddhi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter covers all three required points: you express enjoyment of the concert, mention musical activities, and ask the singer for help. The positive reaction is clear in “I felt really happy,” and the request for assistance is present. However, some details are less fully developed than others. The musical activities are described only briefly as an “open mic” and playing guitar, while “assist me with my new musical instrument” does not identify the instrument or explain what kind of help you need. Add a specific example of what you play or perform, then make a clear, practical request, such as asking for advice or a lesson. This would make the purpose and ideas more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, paragraphs about the concert and your activities, a request, and a polite closing. The sequence is generally understandable, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “In addition to that” help connect points. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical: “To begin with,” “Moreover,” “However,” and “Overall” are used without always showing a clear relationship between ideas. The paragraph beginning “However” does not present a contrast, and the shift from the concert to your own activities could be smoother. Organise the body around the three task points and use simpler links or clear references to connect them. This would make the overall flow more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main message and maintain a warm, polite tone, with phrases such as “amazing experience” and “looking forward to hearing from you.” There are also attempts at more specific language, including “live concert” and “open mic.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “glad after attending” and “having a fun in your concert” do not sound natural, and “new musical instrument” is too general for the request. Spelling errors such as “Toranto” and “privilage” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations such as “I was delighted to attend” and name the instrument or musical skill you want help with.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including “I am writing this letter to express my joy” and the relative clause “which I have never tried in my life.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, and the letter’s overall message remains clear. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In “Last month, I had a privilage to attend,” the article should be “the privilege”; “That was really fun event” needs an article, and “my friends were having a fun” has an incorrect construction. Capitalisation after “To begin with” is also inconsistent. Review articles and countable nouns, and check sentence openings and punctuation. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the range you already attempt.
