Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hello Sir,
I hope you are doing good. I am writing this later to appreciate your singing in yesterday concert. What a fantastic concert it was in Toronto.
Firstly, I am a big fan of your singing. This was a first concert that I attended. Moreover, I was waiting for your concert in my city from a very long time. I enjoyed every song that you sang with my friends in concert. When I heard your voice in a live concert, I got a goosebumps.
Furthermore, I am a piano player and i am giving a sound in musical activities and background sound in function. Although, I am just playing in a party, function or marriage. I have always wanted to perform with you once in a life, it is my dream. However, I would appreciate if you could give me this opportunity to play piano in your concert. I look forward to hearing from you.
Your faithfully,
Keya Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you praise the singer’s performance, describe playing piano at parties and functions, and ask to play in one of his concerts. Your enthusiasm is clear in comments such as “I am a big fan” and “it is my dream.” However, some details are less fully developed than others. The praise would be more convincing with a specific song or moment from the concert, while your musical experience could include how long you have played or what kind of music you perform. The request is understandable, but explaining what help you hope the singer could provide would make it more complete. A more suitable greeting and closing would also strengthen the letter’s purpose and tone.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you begin by explaining why you are writing, then discuss the concert, describe your musical activities, and make your request. Paragraphing helps separate these topics, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “However” show how ideas relate. At times, though, these transitions feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely; for example, “However” introduces a request that continues the previous idea rather than contrasting with it. Some sentences also connect ideas loosely, particularly the description of playing at parties and functions. Use fewer, more purposeful linking words and make the progression within each paragraph smoother. The closing could also be separated clearly from the request.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate your admiration and musical background, including “fantastic,” “live concert,” and “perform with you.” The reader can understand your main message, but several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “appreciate your singing,” “giving a sound in musical activities,” and “got a goosebumps.” The repeated use of “concert” and “play” also limits variety. Choose expressions that fit the context more naturally, such as “admire your performance,” “provide musical accompaniment,” and “got goosebumps.” More precise vocabulary for your experience and the kind of support you are requesting would make the letter sound more fluent and appropriately personal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including “Although, I am just playing in a party, function or marriage” and “I would appreciate if you could give me this opportunity.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence structure, tense, articles, and agreement. For example, “I am writing this later” does not use the intended noun, “in yesterday concert” needs an article and a different preposition, and “I have always wanted to perform with you once in a life” has an inaccurate phrase. The sentence beginning “Although” is incomplete as written. Practise forming complete clauses and checking articles and verb forms; this will help you express your ideas more accurately while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
