Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Gill,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express my feeling about the recent concert that you had at Vancouver.

To begin with, I really loved your performance as it was quite crowded and you did amazing. I know that it was your first live show, you took everyone's attention and almost everyone started dancing. It show's your motivation and dedication.

Moving further, when I heard you song "Ma wargi", I stated singing the layrics of it as well. It made me feel emotional as well as energatic. Due to fast-phase of some songs like "Tu nachdi" and "Tere bin".

Furthermore, I would love, if you would be able to have a show at my house becuse the marriage of my sister is coming soon. Also, I would appriciate, if you can help me to learn some musical instruments and be my coach for it as I you teach other learners.

Hope to hear back from you. Enjoy rest of your day.

Yours Sincerly,

Sonia

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you praise the concert, mention singing along to named songs, and ask for both a performance at your sister’s wedding and help learning instruments. The positive reaction is clear in “I really loved your performance,” and the requests are relevant. However, the details of your own musical activities are limited: singing along is the only activity described, and the request to be coached does not explain what instrument or skills you are currently developing. The concert comments also include claims such as it being his “first live show” without explaining how you know this. Develop your musical background and make the help you want more specific to make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, paragraphs for your reaction and musical interests, a request, and a suitable closing. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moving further,” and “Furthermore” help signal progression, and the reader can follow the main purpose. The paragraph about the songs, however, ends with the fragment “Due to fast-phase of some songs…” rather than completing the thought, so the connection between the examples and your reaction is not fully clear. Some transitions also feel formulaic for a personal letter. Link ideas more naturally—for example, explain directly how singing along affected you—and ensure each paragraph develops a complete point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You communicate the main ideas, but the range and control of vocabulary are limited, with several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include “feeling” where “feelings” or “impression” is intended, “layrics,” “energatic,” “becuse,” and “appriciate.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “you did amazing,” “fast-phase of some songs,” and “have a show at my house.” These choices sometimes make the reader pause, although the overall message remains understandable. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise language such as “your performance was outstanding” and “perform at my sister’s wedding” would make the letter sound more fluent and appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple and more complex forms, including “I am writing this letter…” and the conditional request “I would love, if you would be able…”. The main message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I know that it was your first live show, you took everyone’s attention” joins two independent clauses incorrectly; use a conjunction or separate them. “When I heard you song” needs a possessive form, and “as I you teach other learners” has an incomplete, unclear structure. The sentence beginning “Due to…” is also incomplete. Work on complete sentence construction, clause linking, and accurate possessives; these changes would improve control while preserving your varied sentence attempts.
