Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Jack,

fasi

Hope this letter finds you well. A few days ago, I attented your concert that you performed on the occassion of canda day. I was fascinated by the performence that you and your band memeber presented.

Seeing you in front of me performing along with your band mate was some how unreal to me. I was star struck and mesmarized when you started playing all of your popular songs from your album. I have been listining to your music ever since you have release your first album. You can say, I am lowkey fan of you guys. Your lyrics and motif of your song have been very comforting to me. Your struggle and your talent to create a melody have been an inspiration to me and many more.

I am an inspiring music student and have written few lyrics for the song. I idolized your style of music, that is why i am writting you asking for help to guid me for my upcoming project. If possible, i want your help in composing my new song that i have to create for my up coming school assignment. With your help i can make a new sound that people can enjoy and forget their agony.

If its possible i want to talk with you about this matter in person. Hoping to hear back from you soon.

With best regards,

Aliza

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the task: you praise the concert, describe your interest in music and songwriting, and ask Jack to help compose a song for a school assignment. The admiration is conveyed clearly through details such as being “star struck” and finding his music comforting. Your request is also specific, although the musical activities you do yourself are only briefly described as being a student and having written a few lyrics. The purpose would be more fully developed if you explained what kind of music you write or what support you hope to receive, such as feedback on lyrics or advice about composition. The closing request to meet in person is relevant, but could be phrased more tactfully as an invitation rather than a demand.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: it opens with the concert experience, moves to your musical background and request, and ends with a suitable closing. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and the sequence is easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “That is why” and “If possible” to connect your ideas. However, some connections are a little abrupt: “I am an inspiring music student” moves quickly from admiration to your own activities, and the request for help is repeated in several sentences. The isolated word “fasi” after the greeting interrupts the opening and should be removed. A smoother transition and less repetition would make the progression more natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of expressive vocabulary to communicate enthusiasm, including “fascinated,” “mesmerized,” “inspiration,” and “comforting.” These choices help convey your feelings, and the reader can understand your main message. However, spelling errors and some imprecise or informal expressions reduce accuracy and control: examples include “attented,” “performence,” “lowkey fan,” and “motif of your song.” Some phrases also sound unnatural, such as “your struggle and your talent to create a melody.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, while keeping the warm tone appropriate for a fan letter. For instance, “I have admired your music for years” is clearer and more polished than “I am lowkey fan of you guys.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple and more complex sentence forms, including “I have been listening to your music ever since…” and “If possible, I want your help…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but grammatical errors recur and sometimes make sentences less natural. For example, “I have been listening … ever since you have release” needs a consistent tense (“since you released”), while “I am an inspiring music student” should be “an aspiring music student.” There are also missing articles or plural forms in “written few lyrics” and “your band member,” and inconsistent capitalisation of “I.” Practise checking verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries; greater accuracy across these structures would make your message easier to read.
