Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear ARJIT SINGH ,
I recently went to your concert and your concert was very good. I am writing this letter to you to tell you how I feel about the concert. I feel very relaxed and stress free by listening to your music. Because your songs are romantic and emotional they always give me goosebumps. I like to participate in musical activities. I enjoy listening to music and love to explore different types of music. In my college, I always participate in music i always sing your songs for example HAMARI ADHURI KAHANI etc. Music helps me to feel stress free. You inspires me with your dedications, hard work, and passion for music. Like you, I would like to improve my singing skills. Your success motivates me to develop my musical abilities. I always work hard. You are my inspiration and idol. I always keep practising in music. I am thanking you for becoming my idol.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You address the main points by describing your reaction to the concert, mentioning singing at college, and saying that you want to improve your singing. However, the request for help is not made clearly: “Like you, I would like to improve my singing skills” explains your goal, but does not say what you want the singer to do, such as offer advice or meet with you. Your musical activities are also only briefly described, and the letter gives little detail about how often or what you perform. The repeated praise communicates your admiration, but several ideas remain general or undeveloped. To make the purpose clearer, specify a practical form of help and add a little detail about your musical experience.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The ideas are broadly arranged in a sensible order: you introduce the concert, describe your musical interests, and then explain your ambition. This gives the reader a basic sense of the letter’s purpose. However, the response is presented as one continuous block, and the progression is weakened by repeated points such as “Music helps me to feel stress free,” “You are my inspiration and idol,” and “I always keep practising in music.” Some links between ideas are also abrupt, particularly the move from college singing to the singer’s dedication. Use separate paragraphs for your reaction, musical activities, and request, and connect each section with clear transitions so the letter develops rather than repeating similar sentiments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate your admiration and interest in music, including “romantic,” “emotional,” “passion,” and “musical abilities.” These choices make your feelings understandable, and “goosebumps” is an expressive detail. However, the range is somewhat repetitive: “music,” “songs,” and “inspiration” recur, while phrases such as “participate in music” and “work hard” are broad or imprecise for describing your activities. “Stress free” is also repeated. Aim for more specific language about what you do and what support you seek, such as performing at college or receiving vocal guidance. More natural collocations and varied wording would make the letter sound more fluent and appropriately personal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You communicate mainly through simple sentences, with some attempts to combine ideas using “because” and “for example.” Most of the message remains understandable, but errors in agreement and sentence construction are noticeable. For instance, “You inspires me” should be “You inspire me,” and “In my college, I always participate in music i always sing your songs” joins two ideas without suitable punctuation or a conjunction. The opening also has awkward sentence repetition, and “I am thanking you” is not the natural tense for expressing thanks in this letter. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, sentence boundaries, and a wider mix of correctly formed complex sentences to improve control.
