Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Taylor,

I have been your biggest fan for the past years. I am writing this letter to tell you how I feel about your recent concert I attended.

The concert which took place at the King's square was simply amazing. I loved your stage performance and the confidence you displayed. The pitch of your voice was very powerful and it filled the entire room. What I specifically loved was your flawless dance steps while singing perfectly. You displayed a very good level of breathe control which most singers lack.

As a song writer myself, I always appreciate songs with meaninful lyrics. I have been in the song writting industry for the past 6 years. I have helped popular and upcoming singers write top-notch songs.

I do believe you can be of great help to me. I have been seeking an avenue to break into the Nigerian music space. I do believe a collaboration with you, can get me all the attention I need from the Nigerian music industry.

Thank you very much for your time. I do hope you consider my request for a collaboration.

Yours faithfully,

Osahon Abigail

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you praise the concert, describe your songwriting experience, and ask for help through a collaboration. Details such as the singer’s stage presence, voice and dance steps make your reaction specific, while “the past 6 years” gives useful context about your musical activity. Your request to enter the Nigerian music scene is also clear. To strengthen the response further, explain more precisely what you would contribute to a collaboration or what kind of support you hope the singer will provide; at present, the benefit is described mainly as gaining attention. The ideas are relevant and supported, though this final point could be developed more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter is organised in a clear sequence: opening purpose, concert reaction, your songwriting background, and a request followed by a polite closing. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, so the reader can follow your message easily. Linking phrases such as “As a song writer myself” and “I do believe” help connect your experience to the request, although repeating “I do believe” makes the transition slightly less flexible. The progression is logical throughout. To make the cohesion more polished, vary that repeated phrase and connect your songwriting experience more explicitly to the specific collaboration you are proposing.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a personal letter, including “stage performance,” “flawless,” “lyrics,” “top-notch,” and “collaboration.” These choices communicate enthusiasm and your musical background effectively, and some phrases show awareness of an appropriate expressive style. However, a few spelling and word-choice issues reduce precision: “meaninful” and “writting” are misspelled, while “breathe control” should be “breath control.” “The pitch of your voice was very powerful” is understandable but not a natural collocation. This performance meets the task’s vocabulary needs, but more accurate spelling and more natural musical collocations would show greater flexibility and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, and many sentences are accurate, including “I have been your biggest fan for the past years” and “I have helped popular and upcoming singers write top-notch songs.” The relative clause in “The concert which took place…” and the present-perfect forms also show range. A few grammatical issues remain: “for the past years” needs a more precise time expression, and the comma in “a collaboration with you, can get me” incorrectly separates the subject from its verb. The sentence about the concert could also be made more direct by avoiding the slightly awkward “concert I attended.” Overall, meaning remains clear; careful editing of phrasing and punctuation would improve accuracy.
