Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Daljit,
I hope you're doing well. I just want to say that I truely admire your singing. Your vioce is so beautiful and I appriciate your love with lyrics. The way you express emotions through music is really impressive.
I have a deep attachment with music and sounds. I want to learn to sing and improve my skills. But I'm not quite sure from where to start it. It would be so great if you could teach me some of skills to build musical strength into passion.
I wanted to humbly ask if you could please guide me and help me to improve my vioce. Even a little advise mean alot to me and help me move to one step closer to my dream.
Thank you for your time. I truely respect your talent and looking forward to learn from you.
Best regards

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you praise the singer’s performance, mention your wish to learn singing, and ask for guidance. The admiration is clear in “the way you express emotions through music,” and your request is polite. However, the musical activities you currently do are not described; “I want to learn to sing” is an aspiration rather than a detail about your existing activities. The help requested is also quite general, with no specific form of support, such as feedback on practice or advice about vocal exercises. The response is five words below the required minimum, so it needs a little more development. Add concrete details about your musical experience and the kind of help you hope to receive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you begin with praise, move to your interest in music and request for help, and close politely. Paragraphing supports this progression, and phrases such as “I wanted to humbly ask” make the purpose of the final main paragraph easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some control of progression. To make the flow more flexible and polished, connect related ideas more smoothly and avoid repeating the request for guidance in consecutive paragraphs. For example, combine your wish to learn with a specific explanation of how the singer could help. The closing is appropriate, though a more conventional sign-off and consistent capitalisation of your name would improve presentation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a suitable range of positive and respectful language, including “admire,” “express emotions,” “impressive,” and “humbly ask.” These choices communicate your admiration and maintain an appropriate tone for a letter to a singer. However, several spelling errors and awkward collocations reduce accuracy: “truely,” “vioce,” and “appriciate” are misspelled, while “attachment with music” and “advise” do not express your meaning naturally. “Musical strength into passion” is also unclear. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main message, but they show that word choice and spelling are not yet consistently controlled. Learn common collocations for discussing musical interests and distinguish between “advice” (a noun) and “advise” (a verb).
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, such as “The way you express emotions through music is really impressive” and the conditional request “It would be so great if you could…”. Most of the message remains understandable, and the errors rarely obstruct meaning. Some grammatical patterns need attention, however. In “I have a deep attachment with music,” the preposition does not fit the noun pattern; “I’m not quite sure from where to start it” has an awkward question structure; and “Even a little advise mean alot to me” has agreement and sentence-structure problems. The final sentence also needs a more suitable verb pattern after “looking forward.” Practise accurate noun–preposition combinations, subject–verb agreement, and verb forms after fixed expressions.
