Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to let you know about my experience during enjoying your live performance in the concert.
I felt more proud of your performance because you not only performed with modern music, but also cultural music which makes me more connected with my custom and tradition. I really liked your way of singing because every line is easily understood and made a proper meaning.
Although I am learning to improve my musical skills, I can still play different types of musical instruments, such as guitar and flute. In addition, I started to take part in small activities at college and learn how to make a tune for songs.
I would appreciate if you could help me to teach some important lessons about the music. Firslty, I want to gain experience of singing without being nervous in public. Furthermore, If you can give me one on one classes, this can help me to play a musical instrument in a proper way.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you praise the singer’s performance, describe playing guitar and flute and joining college activities, and request help with singing confidently and learning an instrument. The response is relevant and gives some personal detail, such as your appreciation of the cultural music. However, the request for help is more developed than the description of your musical activities, which remains general; for example, you mention making tunes but do not explain what you have created or how often you perform. The opening and closing are appropriate, though “Dear Sir” is less personal than addressing the singer by name. More specific details and a clearer explanation of what support you hope to receive would make the letter more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce your reason for writing, discuss the performance, describe your own musical activities, and then make a request. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “In addition,” “Furthermore,” and “I look forward to hearing from you” help guide the reader. The organisation is easy to follow, although some links feel formulaic, and the relationship between ideas could be made more precise. For instance, the two requests for lessons and one-to-one classes overlap, so you could combine them into a focused request. A more direct transition from your musical experience to the specific help you need would make the progression feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main points, and phrases such as “cultural music,” “musical instruments,” and “one on one classes” show an attempt to use task-specific language. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, including “during enjoying your live performance,” “felt more proud,” and “made a proper meaning.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear, even though the reader can generally understand it. There is also a spelling error in “Firslty.” Aim for more natural expressions and check spelling carefully; for example, describe how the performance made you feel rather than using “proud” in this context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “you not only performed … but also cultural music” and the conditional request beginning “If you can give me…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “during enjoying” needs a different construction, and “I would appreciate if you could help me to teach” has an unclear subject and verb pattern. In “which makes me more connected,” the tense does not match the past performance being described. Work on verb forms, clause structure, and consistent tense, while retaining your attempts at longer sentences. These improvements would make your meaning more precise.
