Dear .................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Albert,
I'm writing this letter in regard to admire you for your performance in the last concert. There were so many artists and singers, but you carried the different energy which bring my all attention towards you.
When you entered on the stage, the energy was mind-boggling along with your performance, and the way you played the instrument. Overall, I enjoy your concert, and I felt exhilerated.
Moreover, I would like to tell you that I also do some music activities with guitar, piano and flute. Activities like playing 3 instrument togeather as well as making new beats; however, I am not as much professional.
I, therefore, would like to request you to assist me because you have so much knowledge and experience, which will help me to sharpen my skills and the overall performance.
Thank you and I hope we will meet in future.
Yours sincerely,
Akashdeep Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points: you praise the singer’s performance, describe playing guitar, piano and flute, and ask for help to improve your skills. Your reaction is clear in phrases such as “I felt exhilarated,” and the request is relevant to the singer’s experience. The musical activities are also specific, including playing instruments together and making beats. To make the response more fully developed, explain what kind of assistance you want—for example, lessons, feedback on your compositions, or advice on performing. The opening phrase “in regard to admire you” also makes your purpose less clear than it could be; state directly that you are writing to compliment him.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you begin with praise, move to your own musical activities, make a request, and close politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “therefore” signal the progression. This is a coherent structure, though some connections feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely. For instance, “I, therefore, would like to request” follows the description of your activities, but the reason for the request could be linked more explicitly to the singer’s expertise. The sentence beginning “There were so many artists and singers” also has an unclear reference in “which bring my all attention.” Use clearer links and references, and make each paragraph’s connection to the next more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a personal letter, including expressive choices such as “mind-boggling,” “exhilarated,” and “sharpen my skills.” These help convey enthusiasm, and the reader can understand your main message. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “in regard to admire you” should be “to express my admiration,” while “carried the different energy” could be “brought a distinctive energy.” There are also spelling errors, including “exhilerated” and “toageather,” and “professional” is not the most natural description of your current ability here. Aim for accurate, natural phrases rather than relying on unusual expressions; this will make your praise and request sound more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the sentence beginning “I would like to tell you that…” and the clause “which will help me…”. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “the energy which bring my all attention” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an awkward clause structure; “When you entered on the stage” uses an incorrect preposition, and “I enjoy your concert” shifts tense when describing a past event. The sentence joined by “as well as” and “however” is also not well controlled. Practise accurate past-tense narration, agreement, and sentence boundaries, while keeping the useful variety of structures you are attempting.
