Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Chahat,
I am writing this letter to express my feelings about last night performance. It was magical, I could not stop tapping my feet on your beats. When you called one of your fans on the stage to sing with you, I got goosebumps because that was like a dream come true moment.
I also have keen interest in music and often performs small plays at local restaurants and events. While performing I not only sing with guitar but also play drums in order to mix it with variety of music beats. In addition, I am also taking classes to fix my vocals on high note lyrics.
Although, I am taking classes but I would really appreciate if you could facilitate me guiding on how to play other musical instruments specifically piano. Since singing whle playing piano makes the performance looks confident among listeneres.
I hope you would consider my skills and would take time to teach me.
Yours sincerely,
Manav

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three points clearly: you praise the performance (“It was magical”), describe your own singing and instrument-playing, and ask for help learning piano. The concert detail about a fan joining the singer makes your reaction personal, while your request explains why you want to develop this skill. The purpose and friendly tone remain clear throughout. To make the ideas more fully developed, give a little more detail about your musical activities—for example, how often you perform or what kinds of events you play—and make the request more specific, such as asking for a lesson or advice. Overall, the task is covered effectively, though some supporting details could be extended.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: it begins with your reaction to the concert, moves to your own musical experience, and ends with a request and polite closing. Paragraphing supports these distinct purposes, and linking expressions such as “In addition” and “Although” help connect ideas. The sequence is easy to follow, and the reader can understand how your current activities lead to your interest in piano. Some connections are less smooth, particularly “Although, I am taking classes but,” where two contrasting linkers are combined. The final request could also follow more directly from the explanation of why piano would help. Aim for more natural transitions while retaining this clear overall structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a personal letter, including expressive language such as “magical” and “goosebumps,” as well as relevant musical terms like “guitar,” “drums,” and “vocals.” These choices make your enthusiasm and interests clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural phrases: “last night performance,” “mix it with variety of music beats,” and “facilitate me guiding” do not sound idiomatic. Spelling errors in “whle” and “listeneres” also affect accuracy. Choose more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, you could say that you perform at local restaurants and events, and ask the singer to guide you in learning piano.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the time clause “When you called one of your fans…” and the conditional request “I would really appreciate if…”. Meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. In “I also have keen interest in music and often performs,” the article and verb agreement need correction (“a keen interest” and “perform”). The phrase “Although, I am taking classes but” incorrectly combines two contrasting structures, and “makes the performance looks” should use the base verb after “makes.” There are also missing articles in phrases such as “last night performance.” Review agreement, articles, and verb patterns, while keeping the varied sentence structures you already attempt.
