Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to appreciate you regarding your recent performance at "The Soul Fest 2026" held at Moin Khan Academy, Karachi. Your performance was extraordinary, especially the part where you changed your vocals. Being in musical activities, I absolutely loved your music.

I have been in music related activities for over a decade. I play guitar for new singers in their song recording. I have recently started playing guitar at concerts, especially for the singers who plays metal music like you. I have a media house, where my team practice and record our music.

I would be delighted to be part of your band, as our genre is similar. I can help you with music recording at our media house, as it is particularly used to record metal genre. Moreover, our team organise concerts for the singers where we manage the bookings and venue. I would love to work with you on arranging concerts and helping with song recording. If you require further details regarding my media house, do not hesitate to ask me. I look forwards to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Syed Inshal Jawaid

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you praise the singer’s performance, describe your decade of musical experience and guitar work, and explain how you could contribute through recording and concert organisation. The specific reference to the vocal change makes your appreciation feel personal, while the offer to join his band gives the letter a clear purpose. Your ideas are relevant and supported with practical details, such as your media house and experience arranging venues. To make the response more fully developed, explain more precisely what kind of help you hope to receive from the singer in return; the request is currently implied by your offer to work together rather than stated directly. Overall, the task is handled clearly and effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear progression: you begin with your reaction to the concert, move to your musical background, and then make a proposal for working together. Paragraphing supports this structure, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “as” help connect related points. The closing also suits the purpose of a formal letter. Some connections could be made more precise: “Being in musical activities” is an abrupt link between your praise and your experience, and the final paragraph combines several offers without clearly distinguishing them. A smoother transition and a more focused sequence—first your request, then the specific ways you can collaborate—would make the progression feel more controlled and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use a suitable range of vocabulary for describing performance and musical work, including “extraordinary,” “vocals,” “genre,” “recording,” and “arranging concerts.” These choices make your interests and proposed contribution clear, and the tone is generally appropriate for writing to a performer. Some phrases are less natural or precise, such as “appreciate you regarding your recent performance,” “music related activities,” and “used to record metal genre.” There is also a small collocational issue in “changed your vocals.” These do not prevent understanding, but more idiomatic phrasing would show greater flexibility and control. Aim to choose expressions that sound natural in English as well as conveying the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the conditional offer “I would be delighted to be part of your band” and the clause beginning “as our genre is similar.” Most sentences communicate your meaning clearly, and punctuation generally supports the letter’s structure. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the singers who plays” should use a plural verb to agree with “singers,” and “our team organise” needs consistent agreement in this sentence. “I look forwards to hearing from you” also has an incorrect verb form; the standard expression is “I look forward to hearing from you.” Reviewing subject–verb agreement and fixed verb patterns would improve accuracy while preserving your varied sentence structure.
