Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Micheal,

I am writing this letter to appreciate your incredible music performance happend at Rogers stadium in last weekend.

It was a great experiance to me and my friends. We enjoyed the music very well, I really love your voice and singing style. I am a music enthusiastic and would like to participate concert as a performer.

I learned music from my mother. She is a music teacher and composer, therefore I believe that I can sing songs perfectly. Furthermore, I wish to join your music team as a singer, and it would be a grat chance to me to prove myself into the public.

I had some musical activities, I and my freinds conducted some cultural music festivals in my college, and the result was great. I hope this is the best time to join an proffessional academy to improve my skills and work with other professional.

It would be great to me if you hire me as a additional singer in your troup. I hope a positive replay from your side.

Your faithfully.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you praise the concert, describe learning music from your mother and performing at college festivals, and ask to join the singer’s team. The positive response to the performance is clear in “I really love your voice and singing style.” This coverage, along with relevant personal details, makes the letter purposeful. However, the request for help is not fully developed: asking to be hired as “an additional singer” does not explain what guidance, training, or opportunity you hope the singer can provide. Some claims, such as being able to “sing songs perfectly,” are asserted rather than supported. To strengthen the letter, explain more specifically how the singer could help you develop and what you could contribute.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from praise to your musical background and then to your request. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these purposes, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “therefore” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the sentence about joining the singer’s team is followed by a separate account of college festivals without a clear link between your experience and your request. The opening paragraph also combines your reaction with your ambitions. Some connections are awkward or repetitive, including the repeated use of “I hope.” Group related details more deliberately, use clearer transitions, and make the final request follow logically from your experience.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “composer,” “cultural music festivals,” “performer,” and “professional,” so the reader can understand your musical interests. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the letter sound unnatural: “appreciate your incredible music performance,” “enjoyed the music very well,” and “prove myself into the public.” Spelling errors such as “experiance,” “freinds,” and “proffessional” also reduce accuracy. Aim to learn natural phrases for praising a performance and describing musical experience, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would make your enthusiasm and request sound more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “She is a music teacher and composer, therefore I believe…” and “I hope this is the best time to join…” This shows some range, and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors occur across sentence patterns and sometimes make the reader pause. In “I and my freinds conducted,” the subject order is incorrect; “I learned music from my mother” would be clearer as “I learned music from my mother” only if you mean lessons, or “I studied music with my mother.” Articles and prepositions also need attention in “join an proffessional academy” and “as a additional singer.” Review sentence boundaries and punctuation too: the comma splice in “We enjoyed the music very well, I really love…” should be separated or joined with a suitable conjunction.
